Coach Novotny begins his twelfth season with the Griffins. Before coming to Seton Hill, Brian was the head coach at Mt. Lebanon High School. In 2003, Coach Novotny led his team to the WPSLA league championship in addition to the Pennsylvania State Finals and the Midwest Scholastic Lacrosse Association Finals. 

Previous to coaching at Mt Lebanon, Coach Novotny spent seven years at Franklin Regional High School. He served as the team’s defensive coordinator before being promoted to head coach. He helped lead Franklin Regional to league titles in 1995, 1996 and 1999. While coaching Mt. Lebanon and Franklin Regional Coach Novotny has produced 6 All Americans, a MSCLA player of the year, 2 WPSLA players of the year, and dozens of all league selections. Additionally Coach Novotny served two years on the WPSLA board including terms as league treasurer and league president and was the 2003 recipient of the ALOA sportsmanship award.

Coach Novotny was also the Co-Director of the original ACES, a highly successful, nationally respected travel team, that generated many collegiate stars including today's current coaches.

In his eleven seasons at Seton Hill, Coach Novotny has recorded a 93-64 record and has had a .701 winning percentage over the last five seasons.  At Seton Hill, Coach Novotny has coached thirteen preseason All Americans, nine All ECC players, ten ECC players of the week and one ECC Player of the Year.  Novotny has also coached 22 All ECAC selections including the goalie and rookie of the year in the ECAC in 2014.  Novotny was named the ECAC Coach of the Year in 2015.  He has also coached four first team USILA All Americans, and nine USILA/LaxWorld North/South All Star game participants, including being the head coach in the 2015 North/South game.  He has also coached the USILA most outstanding midfielder in 2012 and 2013.  In 2013, he led the Griffins to their first ever NCAA postseason appearance. He currently sits on the All American and polling committee for Division II Lacrosse. In 2012, Coach Novotny was named Coyne's Division II Men's Coach of the Year. 

Coach Novotny played lacrosse at the University of Pittsburgh and holds a degree in Secondary Education. He and his wife, Nicole, along with sons Grant and Brett are living in the Pittsburgh area.
